Back-Handed Compliment?

The following was said to me recently after I finished leading our Brigade service:

I’m just not sure about you being called to your home Church.  I think you should be seeking somewhere with a much larger Youth Ministry. You’re good; too good for us. – {withheld}

Interesting theology wrapped up in that I think.

Wednesday Wisdom #14

Continuing the series:

You can’t avoid offending people from time to time. When you don’t mean it, apologise. When you do mean it, accept the consequences.

Unable to sleep due to an extremely annoying tickly cough, I was sitting up watching TV at 1am when the whole building started to shake. All the birds stopped singing (why they were singing at 1am is beyond me anyway!) and the quake/tremor lasted for about 60 seconds.

The birds are now singing again and all appears to be well. I’ve searched for news but of course it’s early days – however a friend on Facebook has reported an earthquake in Derby too!

Update: 1:12am – another Facebook report of a quake in Nottingham.

Update: 1:15am – nothing yet on BBC, but more news via Twitter and Tweetscan: “moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 hits UK – no news of damage or injuries”.

Update: 1:20am – US Geological Survy has more – apparently the epicentre was approximately Lincoln.

Update: 1:25am – further maps available (if maps are your thing)

Update: 1:26am – share you experiences.

Update: 1:28am – the BBC are finally getting on the ball.

Update: 1:30am – the quake has been downgraded to a magnitude of 4.7

Update: 1:35am – don’t know what it means but this looks pretty cool: Theoretical P-Wave Travel Times

Update: 1:37am – this makes even less sense but is incredibly detailed: Phase Data

Update: 1:40am – a French monitoring station rates the magnitude as 5.4

Update: 1:59am – info from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre: reports magnitude as 4.9, EMSC relocation in GSE format, and related image

Update: 2:05am – and so to bed, zzzzzzz

And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.  – 1 Kings 19.11-12

My name is Ricky Rew and I’m addicted to Threadless.

I’ve just completed a long overdue update to the Threadless page to add the shirts from my last three orders – another 18 shirts!!  The question I’m asked most often is “where do you get your cool/excellent/great/funny t-shirts from?”.  The answer, of course, is Threadless.  The second most popular question is “how many Threadless t-shirts do you have?”.  To be honest I didn’t know the answer – so I thought I’d count up.

The answer is a staggering 58! If you don’t believe me you can head over to the Threadless page and count them for yourself.
